The Festival: October 26-28, 2023 Tromsø (Norway)

Since 2021, NUFF has been divided into 2 parts: the NUFF Workshops and the NUFF Festival.

Two different times of the year in northern Norway, the midnight sun and the polar night, for two sides of NUFF. Two complementary parts that reflect the mission of NUFF: to support, promote and celebrate young filmmakers. Some of the youth who come to NUFF have already made many films, some have taken up a camera for the first time and are aspiring to develop their talent. There is room for everyone. NUFF is an international platform and festival, but also has a special focus on Nordic films, with several awards going to the best Nordic films.

The film competitions

NUFF has two film competitions for short films made in the last two years (with a max length of 20 minutes) by filmmakers up to 26 years old. We accept all types of film genres, including documentary and animation.

For the Nordic film competition the films have to be produced in a Nordic country or the filmmaker comes from or lives in a Nordic Country. Nordic Countries are defined as Greenland, Iceland, Faroe Island, Denmark, Sweden, Norway & Finland.

For the international film competition the films have to be produced outside the Nordic countries or the filmmaker comes from or lives outside the Nordic countries.

Submit your film through Filmfreeway.

Juries & awards

Between 20 and 25 films will be nominated to each competition. The nominated films will be screened during the festival at the cultural landmark, Verdensteatret in Tromsø and published as official festival film program in the festival catalogue and online.

The best International film will be awarded 10 000,- NOK.

The winner films will also be screened at Tromsø International Film Festival - TIFF in the NUFF@TIFF program.
